WILD FRONTIERS CAMPS - NGORONGORO & SERENGETI - TANZANIA

Wild Frontiers Camps concentrate on service and offer simple luxury to the discerning guests. Each camp or lodge within the ‘group,’ whilst having its own style, has been developed with the same ethos in mind. The location of each establishment has been carefully selected, and each camp has been designed to be eco-friendly; built in such a way as to minimize the impact or “footprint” on the surrounding area. The camps are small, between four and up to a maximum of ten rooms. This gives the guests a feeling of exclusivity.

Ngorongoro Wilderness Camp

The Camp

This comfortable and intimate tented camp lies within the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, and in line with NCCA policy, may be moved periodically. Situated on the crater rim, peering down into the caldera below, it offers guests an amazing view to wake up to in the morning!

Accommodation

The camp comprises of ten tents, with en suite facilities, solar lighting and eco-friendly toilets. The chilly nights are taken care of with warm duvets, hot water bottles and charcoal fires in the communal areas. The professional staff will be on hand to look after your every need, and our safari chef will prepare wholesome and varied meals during your stay at the camp. Meals are served in a large mess tent and the communal lounge and bar area is a great place to relax in the cool evenings. Maasai warriors provide security for the camp and this in turn provides them with much needed employment. Ngorongoro Wilderness Camp is an exclusive, but simple tented camp for those not keen on large lodges and hotels.

Activities

• Visit Olduvai Gorge, guided walks around the highlands with local Conservation Rangers and Maasai guides.
• Visit various villages for community interaction and to find out more about the local Maasai culture.
• Get involved in community projects (such as building of schools, health centers, planting trees, etc).

Walking Safaris

They have designed some fantastic multiple day walking safaris in the Ngorongoro Conservation area, partially backed up by vehicle and/or donkeys. These safaris take you from the plains of the Ndutu region, up to the highlands of Ngorongoro and Empakaai. For the very adventurous souls a hike up Ol Doinyo Lengai (only for seasoned hikers) can be organized, and enjoy nearby Lake Natron.

When to go

You may visit this area any time of the year; each season has its own special highlights! Some of the walking safaris are designed to fit in with the wildebeest migration in the Ndutu region, or to take advantage of the drier and cooler months, but a vehicle safari is accessible all year round.

The Camp

Serengeti Wilderness Camp is a ‘seasonal’ camp located in the heart of the Serengeti National Park. The style of camp is simple, but with every comfort being taken care of. Seasonal camps have the benefit of being able to move to some of the best game viewing areas of the park and every three to six months they move to a new location. They work under Park’s guidelines and the camp is truly eco-friendly.

Comprising just ten spacious tents, they provide comfortable beds and quality linen, with en suite eco-friendly toilet and bush-shower off an intimate dressing room area. Lighting is by 12-volt (solar powered) with bedside lamps provided. The tents each have a shady verandah, where guests may relax and read quietly or perhaps watch birds and animals.A large, airy, central dining tent offers a comfortable lounge area with a small reference library and maps, and a recharging facility for cameras and videos. The safari chef prepares sumptuous meals for your enjoyment and special dietary requests are taken into consideration. They also have a typical safari campfire in the evenings for guests to enjoy sundowners and snacks, and relive the day’s experiences. The staff will cater to your every need, and will be on attendance virtually around the clock! They provide a friendly, intimate quality tented bush camp, with good facilities in an amazing area, with due respect given to the fragile ecosystem.
