The Serengeti National Park - Tanzania

The Serengeti National Park spans 14 800 square kilometres/5714 square miles reaching up to the Kenyan border in the north and is claimed to be one of the finest Parks in Africa, with its vast, open grasslands allowing for excellent wildlife sightings. The Serengeti National Park boasts 35 species of plains-dwelling mammals, including wildebeest and zebra which feature in the spectacular Great Migration, and also hosts an extensive variety of bird life. Being in the Serengeti at the height of the Migration is a never-to-be-forgotten experience. Two World Heritage Sites and two Biosphere Reserves (Ngorongoro and Serengeti) have been established within the Serengeti region. The Serengeti boasts an ecosystem that is one of the oldest on earth, with the features of climate, vegetation and fauna barely having changed in the past million years. The Serengeti’s unique ecosystem has inspired writers, filmmakers and numerous photogsraphers and scientists

It is also famous for its “kopjes” (rocky outcrops), and its lion, leopard, cheetah and hyena sightings. The Park features a number of seasonal rivers where Africa’s largest crocodiles can be found. Birdlife in the Serengeti is prolific, with yellow throated sandgrouse, ostrich, secretary bird, crowned plover, and kori bustard most frequently seen.
