The Swahili word “Hakuna Matata” means “No Problem”. Hakuna Matata Beach Lodge & Spa is a 4 Star hotel that offers timeless beauty and tranquility in its setting. The old Chuini Palace ruins set the back drop for this beautiful hotel. The mature mango trees, and  various other tropical fruit like papaya, banana, guava, breadfruit, coconut, almond, orange, lime grow in this paradise. There is a private bay with white sandy beach perfect for relaxation.

Resort & Setting
Sultan Seyyid Barghash bin Said constructed the Chuini Palace at the end of the 19th century. It is now a ruin that has the original aqueduct, cisterns, the baths and the minaret restored. The 3 basins of the old Sultan’s pool are connected by cascades. The roof of the minaret was being reconstructed earlier this year.

Hakuna Matata is located on the west coast 12km north of Stone Town. It is a 20 minute drive from the airport and town.

Hakuna Matata Beach Lodge has a total of 13 bungalows with terraces. All the bungalows have spectacular views of the Indian Ocean. The bungalows were named after all the villages that the explorers David Livingstone and Bernhard Grzimek. There are various room categories which include:

Dining and Bar
The restaurant at Hakuna Matata Beach Lodge offers first class international and local cuisine, all with a Zanzibari touch. Their specialty is everything fresh from the sea. They have an excellent selection of South African wines are available to enhance your dinner. Once a week the kitchen celebrates ‘haute cuisine’ on the beach. The restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. There is a well stocked bar. The coffee bar serves fresh coffee/ tea and cakes in the afternoon.

Community Support
Hakuna Matata’s policy is to give as much benefit as possible to the local people. The staff are from the nearby village. They also teach the local people about environmental needs which include waste problems and they also support a ‘keep the roads clean project.’
