GRUMETI RIVER CAMP - SERENGETI - TANZANIA

Grumeti River Camp lies in the path of the migration, which in a typical year occurs between June and July. The remote Western Corridor of the Serengeti abounds with resident game all year round. The Grumeti River is renowned for its gigantic crocodiles,
Birdlife abounds and birders almost always exceed their sighting targets. Enjoy breathtaking sundowners on Masira Hills. There is an ever-present family of hippos in the river fronting the camp, providing endless entertainment with their antics and grunts. Troops of black and white colobus monkeys are found only in the Grumeti riverine forest and nowhere else in the Serengeti. Excellent Pan African meals are supplied and there is a Dramatic ‘boma.’

Location
&Beyond’s, Grumeti River Camp is set in the western corridor of Tanzania’s magnificent Serengeti National Park on the banks of an oxbow which is formed by an overflow of the Grumeti River. Supporting lush riverine forest, the Grumeti River provides a sharp contrast to the surrounding plains and hosts some of the Serengeti’s more unusual species. The camp is built among tall evergreen trees on the water’s edge. The river is home to families of hippo floating among the carpet of water cabbage, and the birdlife is varied and prolific. The western corridor offers more than just an annual stop-off point for the migration – its colorful topography of hills, rivers and flood-plains provides a year round habitat for a wide variety of the Serengeti’s wildlife.

Access

A number of scheduled airline services offer daily scheduled flights from Arusha Airport to Grumeti airstrip from where you will be transferred by road to the camp. (Approximately 5-10 minutes)

Accommodation
Ten flamboyant tents under ‘makuti’ (palm frond) canopies. Each of the spacious tents has a furnished deck and en suite bathroom with wash hand basin, separate shower open to the stars and separate w.c. There is an overhead fan and the local sculptured furnishings and vibrant decor bring alive the excitement and romance of Africa.

Guest Areas

The guest areas of this intimate camp include open-fronted sitting and dining areas, a lounge area and domed bar. The interior design is colorful and funky with unusual beaded artifacts. The spacious decks are perfect for sundowners overlooking the river. A dramatic ‘boma’ ensures star-studded romantic dinners. The camp has a rim-flow pool perched on the banks of the river where guests can view hippo at play. The Safari Shop is located at the entrance of the camp.
